Installation Process

When your using our sheep wool insulation you'll want to work out at how thick you want you your insulation to be and how many square metres the space is. As a guide a 5kg bag will roughly do between 4-5.5m2 for insulation applications that are 50mm thick. Once you have chosen on your thickness you'll want to install mesh/string netting to create a barrier keeping the wool in place and then either install by hand or using a pump.

Installation By hand

• Stud Walls & Rafters: Push the wool into the cavity, ensuring it fills the space completely, especially around edges. It should be packed densely enough to stay in place, but not over-compressed, which destroys its thermal efficiency.

• Joists (Loft): Place the loose wool between joists. For better thermal performance, fill to the top of the joist.

• Gaps & Cold Spots: Use small pieces to pack gaps around pipes, electrical wires, and gaps between window frames.

• Tips: Tear the wool apart ("fluff it") before placing it to ensure maximum air pockets. 

Installation using a pump (Blown-In)

• Equipment: Rent an insulation blowing machine that can be used in reverse to "fluff" and blow the wool.

• Lofts: Start at the farthest point and work back towards the hatch.

• Cavities: Staple a breathable mesh across the studs to contain the wool. Cut a small hole in the mesh to insert the hose, filling from the bottom up.

• Process: One person feeds the machine while the other operates the hose, keeping it parallel to the floor to ensure even coverage
